应福建师大传播学院邀请，国际传媒分析师、China Daily专栏撰稿人、宁波诺丁汉大学国际传播专业负责人斯蒂芬（Stephen Quinn） 教授，将于下周一（4月18日）分别在老校区（下午）和新校区（晚上）为本院研究生和本科生举办以mobile journalism（移动新闻）为主题的学术讲座，欢迎参加并转告。为便于听众了解讲座内容，现将Stephen.教授与他的手机新闻研究简介如下：

国际传媒分析师斯蒂芬（Stephen Quinn） 教授，记者出身，96年进入教学科研领域，曾在一些国家传媒工作，目前在China Daily作专栏撰稿人，去年9月到宁波诺丁汉大学国际传媒专业任负责人。目前研究领域是mobile journalism。近期，他的新书《亚洲的手机新闻业》（MoJo – Mobile Journalism in the Asian Region）即将由德国阿登纳基金会（Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung）出版。

      随着手机日益成为基本的消费品，以及用户更加频繁地升级他们的手机功能，这些都大大触动了全球的新闻行业。 通过手机采集新闻，使得大众记者们与全球最大的新闻机构之间的竞争日益显现。斯蒂芬教授认为，手机的摄像和宽带功能是大众记者与专业记者抗衡的主要武器。而事实上，即使是专业记者，也开始越来越依赖于手机摄像。

      斯蒂芬教授表示，2009年全球约2/3的成年人都拥有移动电话，其中，约一半的手机都拥有照相功能。这就意味着，全球约有二十多亿潜在的大众新闻记者。他还特别指出，亚洲人比较喜欢用移动电话编辑新闻，约占新闻发行量的一半，而美国仅占8%。

      为了迎合相关传媒专业的学生以及对新闻行业有兴趣的大众，该书还突出强调了实际的操作性问题。作者就如何成为成功的媒体人给予了读者很多有用的建议。

      在从事教育工作之前，斯蒂芬教授曾是一名经验丰富的媒体记者。二十余年的记者生涯为他的教学与写作打下了坚实的基础。《亚洲的手机新闻业》是斯蒂芬教授编著的众多著作中的其中一本。其他著作包括与加拿大皇家大学学院Kim Kieransof教授合著的《亚洲媒体的革新》（Asia’s Media Innovators），同时他也参与了东南亚传媒顾问Philip Behnke的新书《社会媒体与政治》（Social Media and Politics）的编写工作。

   About Stephen Quinn
Stephen Quinn is an associate professor of journalism at Deakin University in Australia who still considers himself a journalist. He is listed as a journalist on the national electoral roll.  Dr Quinn has taught journalism at universities in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the United Arab Emirates and the United States since 1996. Between 1975 and 1995 Dr Quinn worked in all areas of the media in Australia, Thailand, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. He also taught journalism in New Zealand. At various times Dr Quinn has worked for regional newspapers in Australia; the Bangkok Post; the Press Association, BBC-TV, Independent Television News and The Guardian in London; the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney; and Television New Zealand. While directing a university research centre in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from 2001 to 2003 he worked as a freelance producer with the Middle East Broadcasting Centre. Since 1997 Dr Quinn has written 14 books and three book-length training manuals. In the past decade he has presented more than 150 papers and seminars in 26 countries. More than a third of the papers have been by invitation. Dr Quinn’s 11th book, Asia’s Media Innovators, appeared in March 2008. Australia-UAE: Expanding trade and cultural links appeared in December 2008. Funding Journalism in the Digital Age (co-written with Jeff Kaye) and MOJO: Mobile Journalism in the Asian Region, appeared in 2010 and 2009 respectively. Dr Quinn is the only academic on the international advisory counsel for the Ifra Newsplex, a member of the international committee of the Online News Association, and a senior consultant with Innovations International, based in Spain.
