按照中国春节习俗，各地农村春节期间都要贴窗花，以此达到装点环境、渲染气氛的目的，并寄托着辞旧迎新、接福纳祥的愿望。

    窗花无论题材、表现手法、剪刻技艺都是剪刻艺术中最具有代表性的，不仅烘托了喜庆的节日气氛,也集装饰性、欣赏性和实用性于一体。由于最初源于民间喜庆或民俗活动中的剪贴画，且多贴于农村窗户的白纸上而被称为“窗花”。

    窗花以其特有的概括和夸张手法将吉事祥物、美好愿望表现得淋漓尽致,将节日装点得红火富丽。对每个人来讲，窗花是一个能引起许多流连和情感的美妙称谓。但是，时代不同，窗花的内涵和寓意也不一样。比如，我们儿时的窗花，既有鲜明的时代特征，还有浓重的政治色彩。
