Hi, Lijia. This is the Paige Railey Team Newsletter.
HHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got back from Brazil about a couple of hours ago
and
I have some great news: I
WON! This means that I won
the
Laser Radial Worlds! Unfortunately, my Great Uncle,
(Uncle
Tom), who has been sick for many years passed away
during
my Worlds. I just found out today since my family wanted
to keep it a secret until I was home. I know he would of
been very excited to hear about another one of my
sailing
adventures and the exciting new title. So in memory of
him,
I dedicate my win in his rememberance.
To give you some feedback the sailing in Brazil was
difficult but at least the wind varied. Some days it was
very light, while others days there was plenty of
breeze.
One thing that was very surprising about the event was I
won because I was the most consistent of the girls. The
top
pack varied from race to race. Some sailors would win
one
race then be almost last the next. I never even won a
race.
There was only one time that I pulled away from the
pack and as I was saying in my head, "Yes, I think I
will
win, and o buddy look at my lead!" I flipped over. The
boats went flying by me and my heart stopped beating! I
ripped the boat back over and started to pick people off
one by one.
When I won, the most exciting things happened. I sailed
in
and I looked over and saw fireworks going off! Next
people
were running up to me with the
biggest bottle of champagne I have ever seen. Congrats
were
being yelled and I popped the cork and the alcohol went
spraying and I watched my flag being raised!
I have to say that it was a bit challenging for me. I
ate
something bad and for some reason I could not get over
being sick. So for the whole regatta I was not feeling
that
hot. I had fevers, cramps, loss of apetite...but I can
say that I was in denial pretty bad. I kept saying,
"Nope
I'm not sick," until I was in the fetal position laying
in
my bed in pain! Ha, my mom was just giggling at me.
Well, now I have to do SCHOOLWORK! I have about a couple
of
hours to complete a part of an exam! BLAH.... Have I
ever
said that school doesn't rock my world????
I will post pictures on my website so you can view them
later on. I will send an update when they are up!
Cheers,
Paige
PS The pictures are of my victory sail in and the
awards.
