Relief Or Not, That Is The Question
Pine Needles is located in a beautiful area of North Carolina referred to as the Sandhills. The sand is everywhere. This can make for some interesting Rulings this week.
Interesting because of a Local Rule we have on our Hard Card. The USGA uses the Local Rule for Embedded Ball Through The Green. Read this Local Rule CAREFULLY. Does anything stick out to you here?
"Through the green, a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground, other than sand, may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.
Exception: A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if it is clearly unreasonable for him to play a stroke because of interference by anything other than the condition covered by this Local Rule.
Hmmm, "other than sand". This could be fun to see when a player asks for relief such as in this situation.

Sorry. NO RELIEF! 不能补救
It get even better when her fellow competitor has this situation.

And GETS RELIEF! 可以补救
If you want to read all about this Rule go check out Rule 25-2. And for some good trivia for your next wager with your buddies, Rule 25-2 is the only place in the entire Rules of Golf Book that has the word "fairway".
