    怀特·雷文书目是一项持续多年的传统。每年，国际青少年图书馆（IYL）的语言学家（莱柯特伦）都会从最新出版的童书中挑选出一批特别有价值的书籍进行收藏。怀特·雷文书目往往是根据一本书的人文主题、艺术设计、文学价值等多方面内容来综合评点的，这些“额外标签”往往会令一部作品倍受全世界书商与读者的关注。

  

So Moon changed her colour from white, to bright yellow.
Then she floated across the sky and looked down.

But still she could not see her face in the sea, and she began to cry again.

 

    于是，月亮就改变了颜色，从银白变成金黄。
　　然后，她飘过天空，朝下看。
　　可她还是没有在海中看到自己的脸。月亮又哭了。

 

 

She was crying so loudly that Rain,
who was passing by, stopped drizzling and asked.

'Oh Moon, what are you crying for?'

'I'm crying because I can't see my face in the sea.' sobbed Moon.

'Oh, is that all' said Rain.

'That's only because you're too little. Why don't you make yourself big and round. Then you'll see your face in the sea.'

 

    她哭得那样响，让过路的雨也不再往下落了，问道：
　　“哦，月亮，你在哭什么呀？”
　　“我在大海里看不到自己的脸了。”月亮抽泣着。
　　“啊，就为这个呀。”雨说。
　　“你只是太小啦。你怎么不试着变得大一点、圆一点呢。那时你就会在海里看见自己的脸了。”

 

 

So Moon waited for several days until she was big and round.

Then she floated across the sky and looked down.

But still she could not see her face in the sea and she began to cry again.

 

    于是，月亮等了许多天，直到她变得又大又圆。
　　然后，她飘过天空，朝下看。
　　可她还是没有在海中看到自己的脸。月亮又哭了。

 

 

She was crying so loudly that Thunder and Lightning, who were passing by, stopped thundering and flashing and asked.

'Oh Moon, what are you crying for?'

'I'm crying because I can't see my face in the sea,' sobbed Moon.

'Oh, is that all' said Thunder and Lightning.

'That's only because you're not dazzling enough. Why don't you dazzle a lot harder? Then you'll see your face in the sea.'

 

    她哭得那样响，让过路的雷和电也不再轰鸣和闪耀，问道：
　　“哦，月亮，你在哭什么呀？”
　　“我在大海里看不到自己的脸了。”月亮抽泣着。
　　“啊，就为这个呀。”雷电说。
　　“你只是不够亮了。你怎么不试着变得更有光彩一些呢？那时你就会在海里看见自己的脸了。”

 

 

So Moon put on her most dazzling look.

Then she floated across the sky and looked down.

But still she could not see her face in the sea, and she began to cry again.

 

    于是，月亮换上她最皎洁的衣裳。
　　然后，她飘过天空，朝下看。
　　可她还是没有在海中看到自己的脸。月亮又哭了。

 

 

 

 

She was crying so loudly that Rainbow, who was passing by, arched his rainbow colours and said kindly.

'Beautiful Moon, why are you crying?
What could you possibly be unhappy about?'

'I'm crying because I can't see my face in the sea.' sobbed Moon.

 

    她哭得那样响，让过路的彩虹也弯下了腰，问道：
　　“美丽的月亮，你在哭什么？你怎么会这样不快活？”
　　“我在大海里看不到自己的脸了。”月亮抽泣着。

 

 

'Don't you know why you can't see your face in the sea?' asked Rainbow.

'No, I don't.' said Moon.

'It's because the sea is rough.'declared Rainbow.

'Really?' asked Moon.

'Yes, really,' said Rainbow.

 

    “你知道不知道，你为什么在海里看不到自己的脸？”彩虹问。
　　“不，不知道。”月亮说。
　　“因为大海在皱眉头。”彩虹告诉她。
　　“是这样？”月亮问。
　　“是的，是这样。”彩虹说。

 

 

'Then what should I do?' asked Moon.

'All you have to do is adk the spint of the sea. He can still the wind and calm the waves.'

'Oh thank you!' exclaimed Moon.

'I will do that right away.'

 

    “那我该怎么办？”月亮问。
　　“你只能去请求海的精灵。只有他能让大海平静下来。”
　　“啊，谢谢你！”月亮喊道。
　　“我这就去找他。”

 

 

Cloud and Rain and Thunder and Lightning all stood very still while Moon whispered:

spirit of the ocean
spirit of the waves
Cast your magic upon the sea
Make it smooth and make it calm
So my reflection
Can smile at me

 

    云、雨、雷、电，都静静立在了一旁，倾听月亮轻声地歌唱：

　　海洋的精灵
　　浪花的精灵
　　请抛出魔力
　　让风平浪静
　　让我的倒影
　　向我笑盈盈

 

 

Then Moon floated across the sky and looked down.

A beautifully bright yellow,
big and round, dazzling reflection smiled back at her.

'At last!' exclaimed Moon happily.

'I can see my face in the sea!'

 

    月亮飘过天空，朝下看。
　　一个美丽的、金黄色的、大而圆的、明媚动人的倒影，正向她报以微笑。
　　“太好了！”月亮幸福地喊道，“我能在大海里看见自己的脸了！”

    这是妍时常念叨的一本书，在小书房看到后，我总以为妍不会喜欢这种绘画风格呢，至少我这自以为是的妈妈是这样认为，我觉得孩子喜欢的都是柔和温馨的风格，但本来在身旁玩耍的妍却突然从我的手臂下钻了进来，继而爬到我的腿上坐定，然后一本正经的说：“妈妈，我想听这个故事，我给我讲吧！”，而且从头到尾，妍一句没有插话，读完之后，小人儿回首对我说：“妈妈，你给我买这本书了吗？你给我买吧？！”

    自此之后，妍总提起，妈妈，你什么时候再给我讲好哭的月亮啊？
