1.      “孝”是不是中国传统文化的一个特征？　是的，我们中国人认为“孝”是一种固有美德，是东方文化的特征。　Is filial piety a feature of Chinese traditional culture? Y, we Chinese consider it an inherent virtue characteristic of Eastern culture.

2.      在中国，一对夫妇就构成一个家庭。但是，在许多西方国家里，父母加上小孩才叫做家庭。因此，当一个西方人说他要开始有一个家庭时，他的意思是说他快要有第一个孩子了。　In China, a husband and a wife form a family. But in many Western countries, only parents plus children are called family. Therefore, when a westerner says he is going to start a family, he means he is going to have the first child.

3.      在一种文化里的好礼貌，在另一种文化里可能是没有礼貌。比如，多数的墨西哥人在和人家谈话时，总会站得十分靠近人家，而这样做，在许多别的国家里却通常被认为是不礼貌的。　Good manners in one culture may be bad manners in another. For example, most Mexicans will stand very close to the person they are talking to, which is generally considered impolite in many other countries.

4.      在许多西方国家里，13这个数字被认为十分不吉利。在法国，从来没有13号门牌的住宅;在美国，现代的高层建筑是把12层上面的一层标为14层。　The figure 13 is regarded as very unlucky in many Western countries. France never has a No. 13 house to live in. And modern high-rise buildings label the floor following 12 as 14 in the US.  

5.      中国有多至29处的世界级历史文物保护点。由于这些文物不但是中国历史的珍贵遗物，也是人类的宝贵财富，所以中国一直地它们都给予最优先的保护。　China has as many as 29 world-level historical relic protection sites. Since these relics are not only a precious legacy of China’s history but also a treasure for human race, China has always been giving top priority to their preservation.

6.      今天世界上的奇观，和埃及金字塔那样的古代世界奇观绝不相似。过去一百年来，人类取得了令人惊叹不已的科技成就，这些成就肯定是我们的现代奇观。　Today’s world wonders are never similar to the ancient ones such as Egyptian Pyramids. Over the past 100 years, mankind has seen amazing scientific and technological achievements. These are definitely our modern wonders.

7.      有些人以为大山、小山、和岩石都是死的东西，但是中国全国的85处国家地质园，巧妙地告诉参观的人们，这一思想模式是不正确的、是完全过了时的。　Some people regard mountains, hills and rocks as lifeless things, but China’s 85 national geoparks across the country skillfully tell their visitors this mode of thinking is wrong and completely outdated.

8.      上海博物馆经常定期在海外安排展览会，展出其收藏品。这些必看的展览会之一，就是2004年十一月第一次在南美洲举行的铜器展览，曾经使拉丁美洲人大大震惊，因为它完整地展示了中国铜器的整个演化史。　The Shanghai museum regularly arranges overseas exhibitions of its collections. One of these must-see exhibitions was the first display of bronze ware in South America in Nov. 2004, which greatly amazed Latin Americans for it fully showcased the complete evolution history of Chinese bronze.

9.      今天来中国参观浏览的人，会对他们的所见既感到失望又感到迷恋。在一方面，他们对那些体现外国文化影响的摩天大楼或者麦当劳之类感觉冷淡;而在另一方面，又被那些能抓住中国和中国人实质的事物深深迷住。　Nowadays, visitors to China are both disappointed and fascinated with what they see. On the one hand, they are disinterested in those sky-scrapers or McDonald’s and its like, which embody the influence of foreign cultures, on the other, they are deeply fascinated with attractions capturing the essence of China and the Chinese.

10.  世界著名的秦兵马俑，为数约为2000个，于1974年从秦始皇墓出土以后，就立即被证明是考古学上的一个惊人的大成就。 The world-renowned Qin Dynasty terracotta warriors, around 2000 in number, proved to be an amazing achievement in archaeology as soon as they were unearthed from Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuang in 1974.　

11.  佛教从第一世纪到第五世纪由印度传入中国，这对形成中国从汉朝一直到隋唐的文化面貌起过明显的作用。　The spread of Buddhism from India to China between the 1^st and the 5^th centuries played a remarkable role in shaping China’s cultural aspect from the Han Dynasty all the way to the Sui and the Tang Dynasties.   

12.  外国文化在中国的普遍影响，使得中国传统戏剧的存亡面临着前所未有的挑战，今天有越来越多的戏剧正在消失，已经证实了这一点。 The prevailing influence of foreign culture has caused Chinese traditional operas facing unprecedented challenges; nowadays, as has been evidenced by more and more of them vanishing.

13.  我们的教育改革强调教育必须是素质教育，不是应试教育。这就是说，教育必须以提高学生的全面素质为目的，不应以使学生能通过考试为目的。　Our education reform stresses that education should be quality-oriented, not examination-oriented. This means that education must aim at improving the students’ all-around qualities instead of enabling them to pass the exams only.

14.  向外开放教育资源是我国教育工作的一个重要方面，这包括鼓励国外的教育机构来到中国，和中国的同行联合办学，以便向中国学生提供更多的高水平的学习机会。　Opening educational resources to the outside world is an important facet of China’s educational work. This includes prompting overseas education institutions to enter China to jointly run schools with China’s counterparts, so as to provide more high-level study opportunities for Chinese students.

15.  在中国，民办学校教育在过去的二十年里，经历了蓬勃的发展。许多民办学校有权发给国家承认的文凭，而都能在广泛的各门学科领域中，专心进行最高标准的教学与研究。教师一般都是具有较高学术地位的专业人士，完全忠于自己的职责。　In China, private school education has experienced booming development in the past two decades. Many private schools, authorized to issue State-recognized diplomas, are committed to the highest standards of teaching and studying across the broad range of disciplines. Their faculty generally consists of professionals of high academic standing, fully dedicated to their responsibilities.

16.  海外中文教师的人数，很难满足全世界的需要，因为有越来越多的外国人表示出对学习汉语的极大兴趣。统计显示，世界上有超过2千5百万人在学习汉语，有100个国家在各种教育机构里设立了汉语课程。　As more and more foreigners show a vast interest in learning Chinese, Chinese teachers abroad can hardly meet the global demand. Statistics show, more than 25 million people around the world are learning Chinese, and 100 countries have offered Chinese courses in their various educational institutions.

17.  中国的有些学校制定了校园内不得吸烟的政策，覆盖面包括学生、教师、职工、家长、甚至客人。同时也采取了适当的措施，来保证这政策能够认真落实。　Some Chinese schools have instituted non-smoking policy on campus, which covers students, teachers, general staff, parents and even guests. Adequate measures have also been taken to ensure that the policy is seriously implemented.

18.  有更多的中国学生正在出国学习，国外有多个国家因具有较高水平的大学和其他教育机构，能够很好地帮助中国学生深造。　 More Chinese students are going abroad to study, as many foreign countries, benefiting from their high-level universities and other educational institutions, can well help Chinese students in their higher pursuit of knowledge.

19.  读研究生正在全中国火热，经常有大批人排长队参加资格考试。国家经济在各个领域的快速发展，不断增加对高水平专业人才的需求，而这种增加促使研究生招生数迅速扩充。　Graduate studies are red-hot across China, usually with long lines heading into the qualification examinations. The rapid development of the national economy in all fields is incessantly increasing the demand for high-level professionals, which in turn urges the quick expansion of graduate enrolment.

20.  许多教育家认为，在英语学校的校园里建立一个英语小社区，来提供一种有助于学习英语的环境，是有用的。这个小社区必须精心设计，包括有足够的面向英语的活动场所，以便学生可以在一种浸入式的情景中学好英语。　Many educators believe it helpful to establish a small English community on campus in order to provide a supportive environment for learning English. The community should be elaborately designed, which consists of adequate locations for English-oriented activities, so as to students could learn well in an immersion situation.

21.  两校有意在教育事业领域中进行合作，暂定合作条款如下：1）A校授权B校向其推荐学生，A校对这些学生优先录取;2) A校同意B校毕业生中有准备到国外大学深造者，参加其语言课程学习;3)双方互相协助安排行政人员与教师进行互访。　The two schools cherish the intention to carry out corporation in fields pertaining to educational affairs. The tentative terms are as follows: 1) School A has authorized school B to recommend students to it. The former will give acceptance priority to the students thus recommended by the latter; 2) School A has agreed for graduates from School B, who intend to pursue further studies in universities abroad, to participate in its language programs;3) The two schools will assist each other in arranging exchange visits of administrative staff and faculty members.

22.  技术经济学：“技术经济学”是应用经济学的一个分支，主要探讨技术与经济的相互关系，从经济的角度对各类技术政策、技术方案、技术措施的经济效益作计算、分析、比较和评价，从而选择出最优方案。　Technical Economics: As a branch of applied economics, this course concentrates on probing into the correlation between technology and economy, from the economic perspective, with the calculation, analysis, comparison and appraisal of the economic benefits of different technical policies, projects and measures in order to obtain the optimum result.
