Hello everyone! I have recently returned home after a successful tour in China for Peak. I kept a running diary of the daily activities. Here is the first part. I will post the second part of my tour soon. I hope you enjoy it; I really had a great time.
We are in the middle of my third PEAK China Tour as I write this. We are in Chengdu on our way to visit the earthquake stricken area of the Sichuan Province. It has been an amazing trip thus far. We arrived in Beijing with much fanfare and hoopla. One of the best moments for me is getting off the plane and seeing how excited my Chinese fans get. I definitely don?t get that reception in America, ha-ha. The reception I receive make me smile every time. My traveling partners, Terese Smallwood and Justin Turner laugh at me, because to them, I am normal Shane, not anyone that people should get excited about!!! I just laugh.
It is always a fast paced trip. We try to squeeze as many
interviews, autographs, and pictures into a very short schedule.
This year is no different. We also have our translator, Shaan Price
(who kind of looks like me and people mistake him for me all the
time, :) , who is traveling with us.
After my third trip to China, I want to become even more familiar
with the Chinese language. I know a few phrases, but I think it
would be great to interact even more with all my friends here.
Shaan has been helping me with my pronunciation, but it is
difficult. I will do my best to get better in the language and it
is a goal to be able to have an entire conversation with somebody
someday totally in Mandarin.
Yesterday, our second day, started very early. I woke up @ 6:00 am
to get my morning workout in (training camp is near, I must stay in
shape!!!!). After my workout, we had a couple of interviews with
Sina.com, my blog partner, and Titan Sports. Many of the writers
from Titan cover the Rockets during the year, and it is great to
catch up with them in the summer and see them in their
hometown.
He also wanted to hear all about my son, Zeke. He wanted to know
all about being a father and all of the work that is associated
with it. I know Yao just got married and I don?t know when he will
decide to have children, but I think Yao will make an excellent
father when the time comes. After a delicious dinner, I told Yao
that I had an extremely busy day tomorrow. He understood. Next time
we?ll go out on the town.
After the Sina.com interview, we headed to the Peak photo shoot for
all of the photography that will be used in the upcoming year. We
took some great photos and I look forward to seeing the ad campaign
in the fall. Most people think that photo shoots are simple and
easy, but there is a lot of work that goes into obtaining the
perfect photo.
The lighting and angles must be perfect! It is a lot of work for everyone from the photographer to the make up artists (as well as the model......me!). After a long day of photographs, flashing lights and makeup, the beer with dinner tasted especially good! I had to get to bed because the toughest day of the trip was tomorrow..........the commercial!
Stay tuned as I will tell the story of the second half of our trip next week!
It was great to see China again and great to see many familiar faces. Thank you for your hospitality. You really made me feel welcome.
Talk to you soon,
Shane
