>>Basketball can be a rough game. Just last week I had four stitches removed
>from my head. It was the second time I received stiches in my head this
>year
>>and the third time in two years that someone's elbow opened up a large
>gash on my head. Someone once asked me how many stitches I have recieved
>over the course of my career and I told them that I have probably received
>over 70 stiches from various cuts and gashes over my body. Ouch!
>>

>>The latest gash happened when Daniel Ewing of the Los Angeles Clippers
>jumped over my back and accidentally hit the top of my head with his elbow.
> It really hurt and as soon as reached up and felt the blood starting to
>flow, I knew I would need stitches. My first thought was "Oh no! Not
>again!"  It is a running joke that the team doctors always need to keep a
>needle and thread around because it is only a matter of time until I need
>more stitches.
>>

>>When I played for the Memphis Grizzlies last year, I pumped faked Kelvin
>Cato of the Orlando Magic and he jumped really high. When he landed, his
>elbow landed right on top of my head and instantly there was blood all over
>the court. I was a little bit dazed from the blow, but the blood would not
>stop pouring from my head. All of my teammates were very worried. It's kind
>of funny though, my first thoughts were not about me or my head, I thought
>about my wife and mom and dad watching the game on television. There are
>few things worse than seeing your husband or son bleeding on television. I
>knew
>>all of them would be extremely worried, so my first thought was to take
>off my jersey and put it on the top of my head to stop the bleeding so my
>family
>>wouldn't worry. Then I ran off the court as fast as I could, just so they
>wouldn't show it on television.
>>

>>I went back into the training room and they put eight stitches in my head
>and I went back out and finished the game. I may not be the fastest or
>>athletic guy, but I am tough and I wasn't going to let a gash keep me from
>playing and winning the game (which we did!).
>>

>>Basketball is a rough game indeed. But sometimes you just have to stick your head in the middle of all the madness to get the job done. Sometimes
>you get a few stiches but if that is the worst thing that may happen, I can
>handle it.
>>

>>Talk to you soon,

Ouch!
