Is a Test of Spoken English Necessary?

A test of spoken English will be included as an optional component of the College English Test (CET)_. Many people welcome it with applause and enthusiasm, singing high praise of such a brand-new test. Other people, however, hold that it is untimely for us to do so because the overall English teaching and learning practice has remained at a relatively low level on this occasion.
As far as I am concerned, I am most happy to attend such a test of oral English ability. On the one hand, personally speaking, such a test will help me develop a more balanced habit of English learning, casting my attention beyond reading and writing and onto speaking. After repeated efforts, I expect to develop my communicative skills and accumulate self-confidence, which are surely needed in my future career.. On the other hand, this new test will be beneficial to the college English teaching as a whole in that it lays more emphasis on listening and speaking.
How shall I sum up my feeling upon hearing the news of this new test? What I want to do most at present is to seize every chance to improve my oral ability so as to achieve outstanding performance in the coming test of my own..
