I always like making some notes on my journey, so here comes “A Short Essay of My Comprehension on Project Management”

When go to some projects in real life, things will be quite different.

Creative ideas, eternal passions, gathering experiences may help but not decide.

Considering from human nature, one is so easily to be confined and convinced by himself.

Ok, you planned in this side and you’re sure things will go very well. But when it is coming, it goes so different that you will be completely lost.

Now what to do is trying to plan in very different styles and prepare in mind or paper from these “foresee” sides. Try to push them developed, predict their paths and see the probable results before they really happen. And then you can compare and bear in your mind which one you will prefer or your clients for example, may appreciate.

Things will be easy to go. Even it goes so opposite, you can still hold the very position of control.

In all situations, better to dominate than to be dominated. 

Yet we must stay alert even when we have done all these. Because when you face to your client, I mean when you stand there, present your whole plan step by step, and if you think you control the whole situation, I have to say you’re very much mistaken.

If I were the client, when you’re talking about your whole “so-well-planned” plans, you are not on a board-style, but a 3D one. That means I will check your presentation from all kinds of aspectsso further and broader beyond your wildest imagination.

Because you’re confined yet I’m absolutely not.

And it may be a truth universally acknowledged that “a broad-style” rarely wins “a 3D style”.

By the way, that almost reminds me of something else, and explains a riddle I came across of “Sleepy Hollow”.

When someone is confronted with a task of “(Project Management)PM”, it is himself that woefully easy be trapped unconsciously. In this case, how could you persuade others if you didn’t step out?

That’s why I have a very simple concept of how to deal with what my job involves. Since I know so clearly there’re always something known and unknown on your way. Even the wisest man cannot grantee the success. (a very similar saying got from “the lord of the rings”----- even the wisest man cannot tell, because the mirror shows different things.)

So all in all: try to do the best or simply quit---otherwise you’re wasting your own life, not your boss’s.
