“It is ……that+从句”句型用法小结

看下列三条选择题：

It was only when I reread his poems recently_____ I began to appreciate their beauty.

A. until    B. that    C. then.    D. so.

It is the very house _____ he bought three years ago.

A. which   B. what    C. that     D. where

It is the third time _____ I have made such a mistake.

A. when    B. at which   C. that    D. for which

答案为B.C.C。我们可以看到这三题都含有“It is ……that +从句”的结构形式，然而它却在不同的句子中起着不同的语法作用。本文就此结构略作小结。

（一）it用作形式主语，that从句用作主语从句，that为引导词。

1．  It is clear that you have done wrong.

2．  It is certain that we shall finish the project by the end of next month..

3．  It is our duty that we care for the old at any time.

4.  It is a pity that you missed the wonderful lecture by Mr Zhang.

上述1.2.3.4句可以一般化为：“it is+adj./n.+that从句”形式。

5.       It is important that we (should) get the machine working again

6.       It is necessary that we master some English grammar rules.

在5.6句型中that从句谓语动词一般用“should+动词原形”形式。should 可省，而与important, necessary同类的词有possible, impossible, stranger, proper, advisable, essential, imperative 等。

7.       It is reported that China will send up Shengzhou Ⅴ manned spaceship.

本句是常见的一个句型，与reported同类的词有said, thought, believed, hoped, knowen, suggested 等

（二）“It is ……that+从句”见于下列句式中，that从句用作定语从句，that为引导词，可以省略。

8.       It is the first time that I have spoken to foreigners.

9.       It was the second time that he had visited our school.

其实，8.9两句中it可以用this，this evening，yesterday等代换。

10.   It is time that I picked up my daughter from the school.

11.   It is high /about time that we had a good time.

对于10.11所使用的句型, that从句要用过去时形式（虚拟语气），这是一种语法需要。

（三）“It is ……that+从句”用作强调句结构,此时that与被强调部份所指是同一概念，不能省略。

12.  It is what you said at the meeting yesterday that matters a lot.

13.  It was not until he told me the truth that I knew it completely.

that用来代指各种被强调成份，当被强调成份是人时可以用成who，whom。

14.    It is I that/who am going to make the speech.

15.    It is me that/who is going to make the speech.

由此可见，对“it is …+that+从句”结构加以分析和小结对我们学习是很有帮助的。
