As children,we were told to
watch our mouths when we were talking to our parents and other
adults.
We should still watch how we talk to
other people, but for important is observing how we talk to
ourselves. If we washed our mouths out with soap every time we said
or thought something self-depreeating,not only would we have a
clean mouth, but also a positive mind.
We creat oueselves with our
self-talk,the voice in our head that never stops telling us what to
do and how to do it.
"Learn to close the door of your
mind on all failures from your past."Napoleon Hill wrote in
keys to success."clear your mind of any influence whice does
not sipport a positive,mental attitude.
Hill,who spent 25 years developing a
philosophy of success, claimed that a positive, mental attitude is
the single most important principle of
success.
The body is always earedropping on
the mind. What we focus on expands;if we really believe we deserve
the best,it will shou up,but if we think we will never afford
anything better than a 1983 Volvo,we know what we will be
driving. If we harp on what we do not do ,we become one of those
people who run out of sick days long before we run out of
year.
We can change our thoughts and our
behavior, and the numble of sick days we have
left.
"One way to reprogram your self-talk
is by repeating positive affirmations until you begin to get a good
sense of what positive thinking really sound like."wrote Judith
E.Pearson in Healthy Habits.
“After all,much self-talk is
actually negative affirmations.Our emotions,perceptions and
behaviors are shaped by our most dominant
thoughts."
"Advocates of offirmations theorize
that our frequent thoughts represrnt goals whice the subconsicious
mind strives to actualize. What we most often telloueselves can
become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
When we worry,we pray for what we do
not want,we hammer home our faith in a belief system that says we
are yictims, that we do not control our lives.
Reprogramming ourselves is not time
consuming;affirmations are short,paithy and motivational.We can do
them while meditating, walking the dog, dong the dishes,or waiting in
traffic.Since we are thinking while we are going for coffee or
lining up for something,we can use the time constructively and
think positive thoughts about oueselves-and the slow people in
front of us.
"You have to be large than thoughts
to realize that however you interpret your life or someone else's
behavior, however you judge any situation,is no more than a
viewpoint, one of many possible oerspectives,Eckhart Tolle wrote in
Stillness Speak.
