WRINGER

          Do you like adventure? Do you like stories with friendship and danger? If so, pick up a copy of Jerry Spinelli’s WRINGER!!! Wringer is a great book published by Scholastic Inc. and it has 229 pages.

          The main character, Palmer does not want to be a wringer. It is a tradition that every boy 10 or older has to become one. They wring or snap the necks of wounded pigeons shot down at Pigeon Day. They turn into fertilizer and the fertilizer money goes to the park. Palmer is friends with Beans, Mutto, and Henry. They aren’t exactly kind and polite. He spends his time with them tormenting Fishface, or Dorothy Gruzik his old friend. But one day, Palmer woke up to a pigeon tapping on his window. He lets him in and names him Nipper. They become good friends. Unfortunately, Bens finds out about Nipper and will do anything to get rid of him. Will Nipper live? What will happen at Pigeon Day? Read Wringer to find out!

          I recommend this book for kids 9 years old or older who like pigeons, adventure, and friendship. In the book, Palmer risks losing his friends just for Nipper and will do anything to him. I liked this book because I like stories set in a different type of town, such as one that shoots a ton of pigeons. I also like how Palmer has fun with Nipper and becomes friends with Dorothy Gruzik again. My favorite character was Palmer. Wringer is realistic fiction and it is an awesome book.
