Jerry Spinelli
Jerry Spinelli is a very accomplished and interesting author of many books. Spinelli was born on February 1, 1941 in Norristown, Pennsylvania. He was the oldest child of two. As a child, he didn’t want to be a writer. Spinelli liked sports and wanted to be a baseball player. But when he was in 11th grade, he wrote a poem about a high school football game. That poem was how Spinelli decided to be a writer/author. Spinelli attended college at Gettysburg College and Temple University. His first four books were meant for adults and were all rejected. Jerry’s first published book was Space Station 7th Grade (originally meant for adults) and it was published in 1982. He went on to publish 30 more books. Spinelli won book awards including the Newberry Medal for Maniac Magee and the Newberry Honor for Wringer, an exciting pigeon story. He also obtained the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Book Award and the Anne V. Zarrow Award for Young Reader’s Literature. Jerry’s style is mostly third-person point of view, has bullying stories (Crash, Wringer, etc.), has imaginative features and has adolescence and early adulthood. His genres include lots of realistic fiction and science fiction. Jerry married Eileen Mesi, another writer in 1977. He currently lives in Phoenixville PA and has six children and twenty-one grandchildren. Jerry Spinelli is seventy-three and is still one of the greatest writers ever. His books include:
-Wringer
-Crash
The Library Card
-Jason and Marceline
-Maniac Magee
-Who Put That Hair in My Toothbrush?
-Do the Funky Pickle
