开学第一天，学校寄来的部分告示

今天孩子们都开学了，我晕乎乎地自己过了一天。刚清醒过来，便读到了学校寄来的告示。我们学区共有72所学校，大约有五万中小学生。学生当中，有无家可归者的子女！

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! The first day of each new school year is always filled with energy and excitement, potential and promise. This year is no exception.

This morning we opened the doors of our 72 schools to nearly 50,000 students. These students represent a wide range of races, ethnicities and cultures. Some have special needs, some speak languages other than English, and some are homeless. Our job is to know each of them as individuals and to instill in them a love of learning. Ultimately, we will provide them the knowledge and skills they need to realize success and lead productive lives.

As a parent, you have a critical role in ensuring your child's academic success. Research shows that students whose parents are actively involved in their education do better in school. Therefore, I encourage you to stay informed and stay involved in your child's education.
