和我出国那年相比，无论是北京城，还是北京的各大医院，都已经发生了令海外游子自豪的巨变。惊喜之余，我也耳闻目睹了一些北京某些医院里的不足之处。
在北京某大医院的重症病房(ICU)里，每天探视时间一到，匆匆赶来的病人家属，又到了和亲人相见的时间。因为探视时间有限，探视者除了和昏迷或昏睡中的亲人们说说贴心话之外，还要做一件非做不可的事情，那就是要为亲人按摩四肢，尤其是下肢。
稍微有点儿医学常识的人都知道，卧床过久的病人容易出现下肢血栓。为了预防血栓的发生，北京这家大医院让病人穿上一种带弹力的网状尼龙袜。在我们学医的看来，这双袜子并不是溶栓剂，它不能确保万无一失。当然，

为了亲人的健康，没有人会怕苦怕累的。问题是，医院能不能采取点儿并不难办的措施，把病人家属从可以避免的体力中解放出来呢？照顾卧床病人，劳心劳力，尤其是长期重复同样的体力劳动，难免会有“久病无孝子”的无奈。
据美国华人医生介绍，在美国，哪怕是一家特别小的社区医院，卧床病人都有常规的防血栓措施。虽然这个小设施也不是什么灵丹妙药，但它肯定比手工按摩要省力有效。
这个仪器叫SCD(Sequential Compression Device)，可以定时为病人挤压下肢或其他需要促进血液循环的部位。我在网上查到的价格是：$425-795。这东西并不贵吧，但它为护理者提供的便利却是显而易见的。
