此项排名由Condé Nast Portfolio杂志征询一组商学院教授意见作出并发布（该杂志以其创办人Condé Nast为名，是美国著名的商业月刊，又名“商业智慧”，以高端类商业新闻闻名华尔街。）。评分标准是看每个CEO创造或者破坏的价值、创新的记录，以及所拥有或缺乏的管理才能。

其中对巴菲特的评价是“他也许不是一个创新者，但他是一个伟大的哲学家－可称之为商佛，因此榜上有名。”。巴菲特排名仅次于Reuben Mark －高露洁的CEO（被评价为无趣但又将高露洁变成口腔护理产品巨头的CEO）。

紧排在巴菲特后面的是Katharine Graham（凯瑟琳.格雷厄姆）－巴菲特长期的密友，她生前曾是华盛顿邮报的CEO，2001年去世。巴菲特的另一个好友比尔盖茨排第10位，而排名第1位的是汽车大王亨利福特(他还以反犹太人著称）。

"Business Buddha" Warren Buffett #16 On Portfolio's List of Best CEOs Ever

Warren Buffett is ranked number 16 on a new list of the 20 Best American CEOs of all time.

The ranking has been compiled by Condé Nast's Portfolio in consultation with a panel of business-school professors.  They were asked to "consider each CEO's record of creating or destroying value, innovation, and management skills or lack thereof."

Kevin Maney and Liz Gunnison write in their overview that "Warren Buffett may not be much of an innovator, but he is a great philosopher - the business Buddha.  We think that counts."

Buffett is ranked just after Reuben Mark, who was "boring" but "made Colgate the king of oral care."

He comes just before number 17, The Washington Post's Katharine Graham, a long-time close friend of Buffett's before her death in 2001.

Buffett's friend, bridge partner, and philanthropic collaborator, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, is number 10 on the list.

Number one: the "father of the modern moving assembly line" and "famously anti-Semitic" Henry Ford.

Portfolio also compiled a list of the 20 Worst CEOs of All Time.
