上次去老师家，如意小妹问我们英国到底是怎么表达的。是Britain还是England还是UK？这问题可把我们难住了。其实以前学英美文化也了解过。上半年我教的某篇课文中也提到了。然而我对于这个看似简单的问题，仍然不能给出答案。

今天有闲于是特地查证了一番：

1．UK: United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)

（大不列颠及北爱尔兰）联合王国（即英国）

Eg. A UK citizen一个英国公民

2．Great Britain：(abbr.GB)(also Britain)England, Wales and Scotland

      英格兰，威尔士和苏格兰

3．British Isles are the islands of Britain and Ireland.

不列颠群岛包括不列颠岛和爱尔兰岛。在不列颠群岛中，只有北爱尔兰是属于UK。

在英式英语中没有表示英国人国籍的通用名词而用形容词，如：

Eg1.She is British.她是英国人。

The British are said to have an unusual sense of humour.

Eg2.据说英国人有一种特殊的幽默感。

在美式英语中用Britisher。Briton见于报刊等涉及英国人的报道及统计资料。

由以上可知，一般来说，英国人有两种表达方式，英式英语中用British,美式英语用Britisher.

而我们一定要说这位英国人是从England, Wales and Scotland这三个地儿来的，我们可以说：He is from Great Britain.或者She is from England/Wales/ Scotland.

而他如果来自Northern Ireland，我们就不能说He is from Great Britain.而应说He is from UK.或者直接说He is from Northern Ireland.
