环球制片厂成立于1915年，是美国最大电影公司的大本营，在那时尚未有米高梅(MGM)、哥伦比亚、派拉蒙、20世纪福斯和联美等制片厂。六十年代初期因为电视的崛起，电影市场一度萧条，于是在1964年7月4日开始对外开放供游人参观，自此每年上百万的观光客涌入此地，这也是片厂最大的一笔收入。

    环球影城坐落于电影之都—好莱坞，整座山都属于环球片厂，占地525英亩，实际用地485英亩，共有48个摄影棚，其中32个是专供电影拍摄之用。环球影城是全球最大的电影、电视制片厂，全年游客如织。游园观光车将载着您，经过生动逼真的电影场景，如断桥雪崩、山洪暴发、大白鲨、大金刚等；电影“回到未来”、“侏罗纪公园”、“外星人”等模拟游乐设施，也是栩栩如生，使您有身临其境的感觉；“水世界”、“荒蛮西部”的真人特技表演，“魔鬼终结者 3D”和“SHREK 4D”立体电影逼真的效果，更令人叹为观止。此外，“蜘蛛侠”等连场的歌舞表演、动物秀、诙谐搞笑的儿童节目等，更令环球影城增添异彩。
