From our previous report you must have had some knowledge about the construction and appearance of the 13000-room mega hotel, Beijing Marriott Hotel City Wall. Decoration of the guest rooms, Grand Ballroom and public area is in progress, and we can tell its prosperous future from the trendy facilities that embrace the latest technologies. People at the helm play a decisive role; the success of a hotel lies not only in the joint effort of an efficient team, but also in a wise leadership. You may say that the internal strength of the hotel is as reliable as its exterior is glitzy and extravagant. The following are brief introductions of hotel executives.
Rauf Malik——General Manager
Rauf Malik boasts extensive managerial experiences with the Marriott Inc., including serving as the general managers of the Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel, China Hotel A Marriott Hotel, the Renaissance Kowloon Hotel Hong Kong and the Renaissance Harbor View Hotel Hong Kong. His career is marked by perfectionism, not only in his work methods, but also in the sophisticated way he gets along with the world. Rauf has a jovial and humorous nature. He keeps a close tie with the media, and people who read Grand Hotels regularly must be very familiar with him. His remarkable performance achieved over the past years not only makes him a standout, but also leaves a deep impression on his guests. He has been dedicated to making his hotels meet international standards or even go beyond. Perform well and satisfy guests and associates are indispensable to the veteran hotelier’s success. Rauf’s joining Beijing Marriott Hotel City Wall is like giving wings to a tiger.
Juergen Sterkau——Hotel Manager
The enduring purpose of “Take care of the associates, and they’ll take good care of the guests, and the guests will come back” has guided Juergen Sterkau through the past two decades he’s been with Marriott International. “I love hotels all my life.” Over the past twenty-four years, Juergen has been positioned in various hotels across the world, on each of which he spends much time to ensure the associates are taken good care of. He wants to keep them smiling when they are at work because the guests will respond friendly to a smiling face. He also believes a good mood contributes to a healthy, happy and enthusiastic work environment.
Rita Tam——Director of Finance
It’s been over twenty years since Rita Tam got her first job interview at a Marriott hotel in Hong Kong, and the hotel’s tasteful interior and cozy ambiance left such an indelible impression on her mind that she fell in love with it. China is great and mysterious to Rita, and she finds it an exciting experience to be able to work with hotels in different parts of China, where she can explore local culture.
Jack Li——Director of Engineering
Born and raised in Beijing, Jack Li boasts extensive experience in hotel engineering administration accumulated over the past eighteen years, of which ten are spent with Marriott International. He accomplished a lot while working with New World Courtyard Beijing, Beijing Marriott Hotel West and JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai at Tomorrow Square. Jack is now engaging in the preparations of Beijing Marriott Hotel City Wall, which he joined in January 2008 after being transferred back from Shanghai. His return is sure to inject vigor to the hospitality trade in the Capital City.
Ivy Liang——Director of Human Resources
Ivy Liang’s careers include college English teacher (10 years), project manager (a couple of years) and human resources manager of multinational companies (7 years). She took the chance offered by Marriott International and often regrets she hasn’t joined it earlier. Ivy feels happy to be part of Beijing Marriott Hotel City Wall, believing that the management and the entire staff will work together to build another legendary hotel in China and in Marriott history.
Simon Wang——Deputy General Manager
The reason why Simon Wang chose the hospitality industry is a bit interesting. He made the choice not only because he needed the job, but also owing to his love of food. In the late 1970s, he traveled extensively in China for delicious food. Cooking methods and process have aroused his interest, too, so he often buys books ranging from culinary cultures to recipes which he reads very carefully. When a young man, Simon always encouraged himself with the ambition to taste all sorts of good food, and it was just natural that he yearned to work in hotels. His dream has eventually come true. It must have been his sincerity that worked.
