Grand Mercure Baolong Hotel,
Shanghai part of aggressive expansion of Accor’s deluxe brand in
China
Recently, Shanghai is going
‘Grand’ with the launch of Accor’s Grand Mercure hotel brand,
bringing a distinctive new style to the cosmopolitan commercial
centre of China. Grand Mercure Baolong Hotel, Shanghai enters the
Accor network on 26 January, building on Accor’s already
substantial presence in the city.
The hotel has completed the
first part of an extensive US$ multi-million renovation that will
be conducted in two phases with the final phase scheduled to be
completed over the next 12 months.
This final renovation will
upgrade Grand Mercure Baolong Hotel, Shanghai to make it eligible
to receive the China National Tourism Association’s exclusive five
star rating. During the two phases all public areas and rooms will
be renovated, and a new column-less ballroom with roof top swimming
pool and modern fitness centre will be added to the
hotel.
This will be an important part
of the first wave of an aggressive expansion of the Grand Mercure
brand around China. Accor introduced the brand to China in 2005,
with the launch of Grand Mercure on Renmin Square, Xian and the
group is looking to expand the network into major resorts and
commercial capitals around Asia Pacific.
The Grand Mercure brand is one
of the fastest-growing 4 - 5 star luxury hotel brands in Asia, and
boasts some of the regions most distinctive hotels including
colonial properties like Grand Mercure Yogyakarta in Indonesia to
modern intercity hotels like Grand Mercure Roxy Park in Singapore,
Grand Mercure Fortune and Grand Mercure Park Avenue in
Bangkok.
“Baolong Hotel is very excited
to launch Grand Mercure in Shanghai as the latest in the luxury
collection of city hotels,” said Brian Deeson, Senior Vice
President Asia Pacific & CEO Greater China.
“The launch in a major
commercial centre like Shanghai will help elevate the brand in the
mind of Chinese consumers who are travelling outside the country in
greater numbers than ever before. With the renovation and
rebranding Grand Mercure Baolong Hotel, Shanghai expect to attract
considerable interest from the international market, especially
Australia, Europe and America, where Accor is a dominant player and
the Grand Mercure brand is well-recognised.”
Accor currently manages 16
Grand Mercure hotels and resorts around Asia Pacific, with another
six committed to development and opening before the end of
2007.
