Ladies and gentlemen,

Before our trip starts this morning, I’d like to introduce the history of YUNNAN to you. As one of the most ancient countries in the world, China has a long history of more than 5000years, but I’m so proud to tell you, YUNNAN is one of the cradles of the life and an important birthplace of human beings on the earth.

In 1965, a fossil of early human beings was discovered in YUNNAN, it was named Yuanmou man according to the name of the place where it was discovered. By studying the fossil we learned that as early as 1.7 million years ago, there were ancient human beings living in YUNNAN. It indicates the beginning of the China’s History.

According to the records of ancient books, as early as 279 B.C the first kingdom here named Dian was established by Mr Zhuang Qiao, a famous general from Chu State during the Warring States Period. Zhuang Qiao was the first king in the history of YUNNAN.

During Qin period about 2,200years ago, for enhancing the governing and developing YUNNAN, the emperor Yin Zheng sent his minister to build Wuchi road (a very narrow road just about 2 meters wide) to link YUNNAN with the central of China.

During Western Han period, in 122 B.C the emperor Wudi sent his officials to search for a convenient way from Southwest China to Ancient India for business exchanges, but they failed because of the counterwork of a minority group in YUNNAN, so the emperor Wudi trained his troops to conquer the counterwork in an artificial training lake in his capital city Chang An.

From the 3rd Century A.D, YUNNAN has been once controlled more than 500years by a big native family named Cuan. Actually, during this period, YUNNAN was out of the central government’s control.

During the strongest Tang Dynasty, in Dali area, a minority group named Nan Zhao conquered another 5 groups and unified YUNNAN. A powerful state Nan Zhao was established with the help of Tang Dynasty.

During this period, the politics, science, economy and culture of YUNNAN were developed very well. But the agreeable situation did not last long because of the Tian Bao War between Tang government and Nan Zhao in 738 A.D.

After that, a new state named Dali was established by Mr. Duan Siping, a Bai people leader, meanwhile the culture of Buddhism was so widely spread, that many estates of the state were affected and 9 kings of the total 22kings became monks

After Mongolian unified China, the emperor Kublai Khan changed YUNNAN from state to province, since then YUNNAN has been a provincial administration and Kunming was established to be the capital city.

During the period of Ming Dynasty because of the special immigration policy of the central government, Han people became majority group in YUNNAN.

In the modern history, YUNNAN was suffered numerous aggressions from Great Britain and France. But people here made their efforts to protect their own family from beginning to the end.

During the Anti-Japanese War of the World War II, YUNNAN has once been the only access to the outside world. As a base against Japan, the supplies donated by the aliens and overseas Chinese were transported from here to the front lines by way of YUNNAN and people in YUNNAN contributed a lot during the War.

As the P.R.C was established in 1949A.D, the people of YUNNAN started a brand-new life. Nowadays, the government has scheduled a series of development projects. We are now making our efforts to develop YUNNAN into a comfortable home.
