Applications for the fifth intake of this exciting Master’s program in Information Technology for university librarians and LIS faculty in Sub-Saharan Africa are now open.
The Department of Information Science at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, received a second grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to continue presenting the Master’s program in IT for university librarians in Sub-Saharan Africa working in an IT environment and LIS faculty at LIS Schools in Sub-Saharan Africa. There are two types of intake, namely funded and non-funded. Prospective students can apply for either the funded or the non-funded intake, depending on their country of origin.
There will be two further funded intakes, viz. for 2015 and 2016. For these two intakes, funded students will be recruited from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa and Uganda. Kenya has been added with specific permission from the CCNY. The CCNY has also given permission that a quota of two students per cohort from research institutes can be included, but priority will be given to universities if there are eligible applicants.
For funding criteria and financial issues, information on the programme content, selection criteria, application procedures, important dates, etc., please see http://web.up.ac.za/default.asp?ipkCategoryID=14080&sub=1&parentid=1066&subid=1089&ipklookid=7.
The program is a two-year coursework Master’s with a number of coursework modules and a mini-dissertation of limited scope.
The program makes use of a blended learning methodology - technology-mediated distance education as well as on-site, face-to-face lectures. Lecturing will take place in Pretoria, South Africa, as well as in the USA at the Universities of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Wisconsin-Milwaukee and in Uganda at Makerere University.
Applications for the 2015 intake close on 31 October 2014.
