A BOOK HISTORY RESEARCH NETWORK Study Day on Print Culture in

Global and Transnational Context


CENTRE FOR URBAN HISTORY, UNIVERSITY OF LEICESTER, UK
FRIDAY, 23 MAY 2014

PAPERS ARE INVITED for this interdisciplinary Study Day from postgraduates, independent researchers and established scholars working on the history of print culture in any part of the world and at any period. Papers which engage with global, transnational and ‘borderlands’ aspects of book history are especially welcome.

Topics might include but are not limited to:

· International comparisons of print culture in more than one country

· How print culture crosses boundaries: political, geographical, cultural, linguistic

· Print culture in ‘borderlands’ history

· Cross-border book-trade connections; international networks of publishers, printers, booksellers

· The movement of books between countries

· The role of print in transmitting ideas and culture across boundaries

· Colonial and post-colonial print culture

· Centres, peripheries and networks in global print culture
