    值此2009级博雅班开学之际，我们谨代表美国岭南基金会董事会向你们致以真挚而热烈的祝贺！博雅班是中山大学综合性本科教学改革的一个重要组成部分，你们作为可望开办的多届博雅班中的第二届博雅班学子将从这项改革中获益。

    因为中山大学教师和领导的远见和才能，中山大学正在引领全国本科教学改革的发展道路。黄达人校长、陈春声副校长、程焕文院长/馆长、黄昭处长和许多教授，以及其他人员直接或者间接地参与了博雅教育计划。他们的努力工作和奉献使博雅教育计划在中山大学得以成为现实。

    你们是博雅教育计划的学生，我们鼓励你们充分地利用博雅班即将提供给你们的一切大好机会。这些机会对于你们来说都是挑战，将拓展你们的视野和人生经验。这些机会将引领你们建立超越你们主修专业领域的学术和智识联系，这将为你们个人、你们的社区、你们的世界导入新的见识。

（程焕文于2009年9月19日上午仓促翻译，并在下午的岭南基金会中山大学博雅教育计划2009级博雅班开学典礼上宣读英文和中文贺信。“博雅班”是美国岭南基金会资助的中山大学综合性本科教学改革试验项目。该项目于2008年9月正式启动，今年9月第二期博雅班开学，150名优秀学生分别来自管理学院、法学院、政务学院、资讯管理系和传播与设计学院，每个学院（直属系）遴选优秀学生30名。程焕文为该项目的执行负责人）

To Members of the Boya Ban Class of 2009:

On behalf of the Lingnan Foundation Board of Trustees, we send you sincere and enthusiastic congratulations. The Boya Ban program is an integral part of the comprehensive undergraduate educational reform at SYSU and you are the second class of hopefully many classes of students to benefit from these reforms.

SYSU is leading the way nationally in undergraduate educational reform because of its visionary and capable university faculty and administration: President Huang Daren, Vice President Cheng Chunsheng, Dean and University Librarian Chen Huanwen, Director Huang Zhao and many professors and others directly or indirectly involved. Their hard work and dedication has made this program a reality at Sun Yat-sen University.

We encourage you, as members of the Boya Ban program, to take advantage of all the opportunities that the Boya Ban will offer you. They are intended challenge you, to expand your horizons and your life experiences. They will lead you to make academic and intellectual connections beyond your major fields of study, which in turn will lead to new insights into yourself, your community, and your world.

The dedicated faculty in the Boya Ban program will push you to think and learn in new ways. They will challenge you to move beyond the classroom and, together with your fellow Boya Ban classmates, tackle the issues of today’s world. Your engagement in these diverse experiences will prepare you to become productive citizens and the future leaders in your respective fields.

The Lingnan Foundation is honored to be associated with the Boya Ban program and we look forward to learning more about your experiences as Boya Ban students.
