Joey学历比较低,知识贫乏,经常被伙伴们嘲笑。这次来中国,他觉得大家对中国都不了解,起点都一样,于是暗下决心,要成为第一个学会中文的人。
“This is the paradise
of bars. No IDs are required for entrance, and one can dance his
butt off with a 2-dollar ticket for all night. Are you kidding
me?” Joey said, standing behind the counter of the hip-hop dancing
bar Propaganda.
“Got any little love
encounters recently?” Phoebe smiled. She was taking a break from
playing guitar at the nearby Lush.
“You bet! Chicks all
dig me, it seems that my classical flirting ‘How you doing!’ is
an international hit. Wednesdays are cuties special, when girls can
drink all-you-want for only 20 RMB. It is such a love treat for my
eyes.” Joey chuckled with a pretentious gesture, pointing two
thumbs to himself.
“Like they all
understand you, eh?” Phoebe was curious.
“Well, some don’t
know a single word of English. That works the best for me, we just
use body language to communicate.” Joey became
naughty.
“You flirty bastard!
Have you picked up ‘How you doing!” in Chinese?” Phoebe
asked.
“Of course. Yesterday
a really cute Chinese girl Lisa taught me that. Ni你 Hao好 Ma吗! I
am still a bit confused with the four tones and the order, but
saying ‘How you doing!’ in Chinese turns me on even more.” Joey
blinked.
“Ni你 Hao好 Ma吗. It
does sound cute.” Phoebe repeated slowly.
“And you know what, I
think Lisa and I hit it off right away. Oh, here she comes.”
Getting nervous, Joey’s tongue got all twisted when he tried to
pleasantly greet Lisa with ‘How you doing!’ in Chinese, and he
got all mixed up.
“Lisa, Ni你 Ma妈
Hao好!” Joey shouted.
“What? Are you
crazy?” Lisa was embarrassed among people’s laughs.
Realizing he must have
messed up the greeting, Joey quickly changed the order and spoke
even louder.
“Lisa, Ma妈 Ni你
Hao好!”.
Lisa ran off to the
basement as fast as she could. Some students sitting by the counter
laughed to tears.
“Your mother just
left.” Knowing ‘Ma’ means ‘mother’ in Chinese, Phoebe mocked
Joey, picked up her guitar, and was headed to Lush.
“What?” Joey was
still very confused.
