题记：法国兵营旧址，位于北京台基厂三条，是第五批全国重点文物保护单位，2001年被归入“东交民巷使馆建筑群”老北京的法国兵营，是《辛丑条约》的产物。1900年8月16日，八国联军攻入北京，北京沦陷。根据不平等条约相关条款，列强各国可派军队驻守使馆、设立兵营。于是，法国人就在法国公使馆东侧就着被义和团毁坏的民宅旧址建立了一所兵营，因驻守将军叫瓦隆，又称“瓦隆兵营”。

法国兵营设施齐全，进门后左右有二幢二层楼房，练兵场东、西两侧各有一幢独立别墅式两层军官楼。两幢二层法军宿舍分列中轴线两侧，其后为食堂等单层建筑，另有一些辅助用房在场地西侧。
