What Is Good Death?
Just now this afternoon ,I went to sit in on Anth 325 again, a
lecture about Rites of Passage.It is the 3rd lecture. Today's focus
was on Modern Death.In the lecture we saw a video which just showed
the last moment of a cancer patient. The doctor just declared the
patient was going to die and asked the families whether they chose
to put off the tube or not. It was sad and made my heart sink.
Perhaps in the near future I'll face the situation.
And then the
lecturer talked about good death that he understands quite
different from us Chinese. He just thinks cancer death is one kind
of good death because it is chronical and happens gradually, you
are prepared. You can stay at hospice, know when you'll leave and
prepare for the ritual. On the contrary, bad death is one form
which is sudden.
It is
different from our point of view.
