WIN NOBEL FOR MEDICINE: Two
Americans, James Rothman and Randy Schekman, and Germany’s Thomas
Suedhof were awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize for Medicine on Monday.
They were honored for their research into how cells organize their
transport system. The Nobel committee said the research helped
determine how insulin is manufactured and released into the blood.
Rothman is a professor at Yale University, Schekman is a professor
at the University of California, Berkeley, and Suedhof is a
professor at Stanford. Medicine is the first of the Nobel prizes to
be awarded, with physics to be announced Tuesday, chemistry
Wednesday, literature Thursday, and peace Friday.
