FOR WEEKS :The floods
swamping Thailand may take 6 weeks to recede, says the Thai Prime
Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Flooding has killed 356 people so far
and displaced more than 110,000. Tremendous amounts of runoff from
monsoons in the north of the country have been nearing the capitol
for weeks. On
Friday, water began spilling over canals within Bangkok’s
outer districts. The disaster has put nearly 700,000 people out of
work as factories suspended operations. The floods are the worst in
Thailand since 1942 and are proving an early test for Yingluck, who
took power in a tense election in July.
