SAID GOODBYE :As word spread
among Steve Jobs’s friends and family that he was dying, many made
the pilgrimage to Palo Alto for one last visit. Most were
intercepted by Jobs’s wife, Laurene, who apologized that he was too
ill to receive visitors. In his final weeks, he was too weak to
walk up the stairs on his own, she said. Among those whom Jobs
decided to meet were his friend the physician Dean Ornish, venture
capitalist John Doerr, and Disney chief Robert Iger. He also gave
Apple’s executives advice on unveiling the new iPhone and spoke to
his biographer, Walter Isaacson. Mostly, though, he spent his final
weeks with his wife and children.
