Mice receiving the drug lived 44 percent longer than obese mice that received no treatment. The research may hold hope for longevity drugs for humans-obese and otherwise. The proteins, called sirtuins, activated by the resveratrol-like drug, help bring about a 30 percent extension in lifespan for mice on a very low-calorie diet. Experiments with resveratrol-mimicking drugs attempt to bring those benefits to mice on a normal diet.
