WAITING LONGER FOR MOTHERHOOD IN US: The percentage of
teen girls having babies has gone down in the US. Instead, women
are increasingly having children later in life and are better
educated--more than half now have at least some college
education--when they do. In 2008, just 10 percent of US births were
to teens, a decrease of three percent since 1990. Meanwhile, nearly
14 percent of mothers of newborns were 35 or older, a five percent
increase during that same period. Data also show that the
percentage of unmarried women having children has increased
dramatically.
