Stonnington Pound Redevelopment

随着墨尔本的流浪猫越来越多，Architecture Matters建筑事务所被委托扩建当地的猫咪收容所，客户要求与现有的建筑和周围环境呼应。原有建筑为灰色外表，所以新建筑采用的是灰色的钢包体块，建筑语言与前者有所呼应但又不尽相同。建筑的一端涂成鲜艳的红色，成为提示建筑入口的标志。这个建筑为住在这里的小动物们提供了高级的设施，在建筑节能方面也表现出色。雨水收集系统循环会利用废水水来清洗厕所。窗户可以开启自然通风，晚上窗户关闭，会自动转换为智能空调系统。。建筑俐还采用了低能耗灯、低辐射玻璃窗和外遮阳，同时保证这个建筑的高性能和低耗能。

With a growing population of lost and abandoned cats in Melbourne， local practice Architecture Matters was commissioned to expand on the existing pound and warehouse with an annex that would respond to the existing architecture and create an identity amidst its wooded surroundings. Following the footprint dictated by the original greying structure and the enveloping freeway， the new steel-clad form forms a wedge-shaped volume whose skin reflects a renewed language from the attached existing construction. A characteristic vibrant red-toned copper end establishes the structure as an identifiable beacon from the road or the ground， with folded screens projecting out towards the approach onto the premises， signalling the entry sequence while providing a semi-opaque filter between the animals' outdoor play areas and the human domain. The new construction also strives for sustainable excellence， providing the animals with a high-end facility that functions efficiently as well. Rainwater catchment systems recycle water to be used for washing the enclosures and in the restrooms' cisterns. Operable windows allow for the possibility to naturally ventilate the space and practice night flushing techniques coupled with an intelligent air conditioning system cut-off when windows are opened. Low-energy lights， low-E glazing and external shading， along with a high-performance roof insulation assure low energy usage throughout the day and maintains a comfortable home for its unclaimed guests.
