How to
Communicate with Western CEO.
The scope includes marketing, product planning / promotion /
sales. Not communication skill itself, but using communication as a
scenario to elaborate marketing strategies with real cases,
concrete knowledges and experiences. Last time in Zhongshan
University, my speech was focusing on "systematical thinking",
which is one of the main elements of the topic. It is
essentially on how to build a long term business /
academic strategy enabling an enterprise or research institute to
consistently grow in the globalizing world. For instance, to
produce a 3-5 years business strategy, including the generally
so-called mission and vision, over a specific market / industry /
ecosystem.
This topic is vital, particular to those enterprises and their
high level managers whose business has not firmly got an
influential share of the global market. With respect to those
domestic business, it is equally important. They may often
encounter a lot of misunderstandings between buyers and sellers or
between the producers and the consumers, due to
different viewpoint of thinking
and expressing business strategies or products.
They may often completely lose opportunities while they have not
been aware of how severe the problems are and where they are. Even
the world class CEOs from Fortune 500 also make such mistakes in
important meetings. I, working as Huawei wireless chief's
assistant, often caught such points and correct these severe
problems in the important meetings.
The problems are neither due to language, nor technology, nor
business strategy,,,, but mindsets. The mindset problems are so
important that misunderstandings from the
beginning may very often indicate NO MORE
opportunities! This is also why the Philosophy
Department of Zhongshan University invited me to share my knowledge
and experiences to them, because my speech
exactly combats with these
mindset problems. The mindset problems
cannot be dealt with by
simply combining a few experts with
different special backgrounds, such as technical,
marketing, sales, quality control and professional
translator. In other words, even a 5-in-1 expert
cannot deal with the communication problems either.
The most frequently encountered communication problems are
actually mindset problems. Therefore, without the right mindset and
the right context, communicating with customers with unidentical
positions or different culture may very often
fail. The solution dealing with the communication
problems, or mindset problems, lies
in a
few related key issues. I term
one of them "Systematical Thinking". This is one
important element of my speech, but not all (full contents appear
in my formal presentations). Systematical thinking means, to simply
put, not that once having an answer in
hand is okey enough, but viewing and analyzing the
complete set of potential resources and seeking through the
complete set of possible solutions. This is essential, whereas
finding the best optimal outcome is the last thing. In other words,
guaranteeing market success from the very beginning.
When missing these issues in mind, it is very likely to
fail when communicating with important
oversea/domestic customers, or producing a 3-5 years business
strategy. And the severe consequence is NO MORE opportunity!
Here are a few discrete sample slides of my training course, not
all, but able to shed some light on how important the mindset
knowledge is and what the methods are. I have already delivered
such training courses to some top class firms, such
as Cisco Beijing, ZTE Shenzhen, Midea Shunde,
Kinglong Suzhou, YOFC Wuhan in the past few months. I did not
intentionally promote my training course due to my cancer situation
(don't worry, I am still ok). But as long as a valuable company /
