前几天，有位英语教师打电话探讨一个问题。她说初中英语《新目标》（人教版）第三册P88 右下角有这样一个句子：“Go  out  the  front  door  and  take a  right .”。out通常实惠副词，但这里out后面怎么跟有名词？out到底是什么词？是不是应该在out后加上of？笔者认为这个问题有一定代表性，查阅了有关资料，现就out作介词的用法简单介绍如下：

1.这里的out是介词，不是副词。out作介词是一种美国英语用法，如out   the  gate, out  the  window。意思是“from the inside to the outside of something，从……里面出去”。但许多英国的英语教师和有些美国人认为把out用作介词是不正确的，认为应该改用 out  of。

2.out用作介词通常多在 door ,gate ,window ，car等词的前面，不可滥用在house ,room ,garden ,school 等词的前面。

（1）Don’t  throw  anything  out   the  window.

（2）She  ran  out   the  gate .

她跑出门外。（同上）

（3）Karen  looked  out  the  window  at  the  backyard.

（5）Hey, look out the window! See the hot-air balloon?（同上，光盘资料）

（6）She ran out  the door and down the street. （同上，光盘资料）
