I attended a training from Cascandia Capital LLD, a US company that focuses on investment bank business in VC field. Something I learnt is recorded as following:

 

Due Diligence: I knew how to do due diligence and what the complete process of due diligence is. I need more time to learn and practice them.

 

Data, Information, Knowledge and Intelligence: From Data to Intellegence, There is the apparent difference between them. A simple example is that we always read newspaper and Internet to find all kind of information and knowledge, but I don't use them to become my Intelligence. Therefore we still have not enough good-idea, good-strategy, and good action to fulfill our goal even though we have had enough informaiton and knowledge.

 

--Why, there is a huge gap between information and intelligence. For instance, when we heard that one of our competitor is operating up to 90% capacity, it is just information; the real intelligence  is that the competitor has reached a cost position that will knock us out of competition, unless we can reduce our overheads. Another example is when we heard that the competitor is launching a new product promotion, I know that and it is just a information. however the intelligence for the information is that the competitor's new product presents no immediat threat and is only a me-too version， and we can wait and watch for 2 quarters...

 

We all know what information and intelligence are and what their difference is, but it is not easy to us to understand and master how to transfer information to intelligence for dicision-making. We also need to form and promote our habit--always thinking and finding the real cause and the probable consequence from the information we get. Gradually I will possess our unique intelligence from data, information and knowledge.
