素质教育Quality Education in China

Chinese education has long attached great importance to academic achievements. As a result, Chinese students have gained international fame in various academic contests and most graduate from school with high-tech scores. However, it does not mean that they are winners out of school. Many of them failed, not because of lack of knowledge, but because of quality. The need for quality education cannot be avoided any more.

应试教育弊端〗〖Examination-oriented education, like a slave owner’s whip, drive students crazy. These exams inevitably result in a test-oriented force-feeding teaching method, which seriously hinder the development of students’ creativity. What’s more, exams are terrible even to the well prepared. Many students fail in important exams just because of being too nervous. The great pressure and anxiety often adversely affect the final score and a dumb mistake may ruin everything.

How can we improve quality education in China? Affected by thousands of years’ examination-oriented education, most of our students are high in their scores and poor in their quality. In Chinese schools, we overemphasize academic achievements and neglect the development of social skills. After graduation, you may get along on brilliance for a while, but most careers involve other people. In order to reverse this trend, we must change our minds.

I think the first thing we have to do is cultivate the students’ spirit of innovation. We may say that the innovation is the motivation of the development. It is hard to imagine that the advance of the whole society can be realized without constant innovation.

Secondly, though most of the college students are intelligent and fond of study, some are comparatively less capable of handing their social and living affairs. When they meet sth unexpected, they don’t know how to solve it. Some even phone home to ask what to do each time they run into any trouble. These reflect their poor at using their hands. So we should develop their ability of self–dependence and enhance their capability to analyze and tackle problems under special circumstance so as to avoid their poor quality.

Thirdly, most of our students have strong desire to make a big feat and always tend to devote themselves to the advances of the society. In the course of their achieving their goal, good personality makes a big difference. And the personality will give rise to a strong communication skill and thus enabling them to deal with different people from all kinds of the walk effectively. With the capacity to make friends, they can give and take criticism; they will be sensitive to the feeling of others and they become to realize how to work with a team, thus develop their spirits of teamwork. In short, good personality and strong communication skill can pave the way to their success.

To sum up, we must aggressively advocate the quality-oriented education to avoid the negative effects brought about by examination-oriented education. In order to become a qualified student, one should bear in mind that education does not merely mean the knowledge from books, but it means the overall improvement of one’s quality of education. We should take measures to encourage students to take initiative and give full play to their talents. As students, we must not be too fussy about scores. We are not the slaves of books, anyway. We might have good reason to believe that the future belongs to those who are of high quality rather than those who are of high scores only.

〖应试教育,就像奴隶主的鞭子,驱使学生们疯狂。这些考试毫无疑问的导致了以考试为中心的填鸭式的教学方法,因此严重阻碍了学生创造性的发展。更甚者,这些考试甚至对于准备充分者也非常糟糕。许多学生在重要考试中失利仅仅因为太过紧张。巨大的压力和焦虑往往会反方向的影响到学生的最终成绩,一个愚蠢的错误会使全盘皆输。〗

我们怎样才能提高中国的素质教育呢?受千百年来应试教育的影响,大多数学生高分低能。在中国学校,我们过分重视了学生的学业成绩而忽视了学生技能的发展,毕业后,你可能会暂时光环围绕一阵子,但是大多数的职业却需要的是其他人。为了扭转这一趋势,我们必须转变观念。

1我认为我们不得不做的第一件事就是培养学生们的创新精神。我们可以说:创新是发展的动力。很难想象:整个社会的发展能被实现如果没有持续的创新。

2尽管大多数学生很聪明并热爱学习,有些人相比较而言还是没有足够能力处理社会和生活琐事。当他们遇到一些意料之外的事时,他们往往不知道如何解决。有些人甚至打电话回家去询问该如何去做每次他们遇到麻烦时。这反映出他们的实际动手能力差。所以我们应该培养他们的自立能力并提高他们在具体的环境下分析问题和解决问题的能力,以避免低素质。

3我们的大多数学生有强烈的建功立业的愿望并往往倾向于为社会的进步贡献一生。在他们实现目标的过程中,良好的性格有着很大的不同。良好的性格会导致很强的交际技能,因此使他们能与不同职业的不同人群相处有效率。伴随着他们交朋友的能力,他们可以给予并接受批评,他们会对他人的感情感到敏感,并开始意识到如何和团队工作,因此培养他们的合作精神。总之,良好的性格和交际技能可以为他们铺出一条成功的道路。

总之,我们必须大力提倡素质教育以避免应试教育所带来的负面影响。为了成为一个合格的学生,一个人应该记住:教育不是仅仅意味着书本上的知识,而是意味着一个人教育素质的综合提高。我们应该采取措施鼓励学生采取主动并充分发挥他们的才能。作为学生,我们不要再对书本大惊小怪,我们不再是书本的奴隶。我们有理由相信:未来是属于那些高素质而不是那些只有高分的人。

     中国教育已经长期重视学业成绩。结果,中国学生赢得了国际声誉在各类的学业考试中,且大多数学生从学校毕业以高分的考试成绩。但这并不意味着他们在学校之外也会成为胜利者。他们中的许多失败了,不是因为他们缺乏知识,而是因为他们缺乏能力。因此,对于素质教育的需求再也不能被忽视了。
