Shoe choice no foot fault,
says China's Zheng

DOHA, Dec 13 (Reuters) - China's Zheng Jie
wrong-footed crowd favourite Sania Mirza to win the Asian Games
women's singles title on Wednesday, then insisted her curious
choice in shoes was no foot fault.
The 23-year-old Zheng subdued her Indian rival
with flowing ground strokes but her shoes, one bright red and the
other silvery-grey, also attracted attention.
"Maybe others would ask 'did you make a mistake
wearing different shoes?'" a giggling Zheng told
reporters.
"These were especially designed for the Asian
Games tennis," added Zheng, who partnered compatriot Yan Zi to the
doubles titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this
year.
The Chinese second seed silenced hundreds of
racuous Indian fans packed into the stadium to win gold but said
the pressure-pot environment almost got to her.
"The noise did affect me," she said. "Tennis is
normally quiet and elegant, but today I felt I was playing
football."
