“In the digital world, we don’t need back-ups, because a digital copy never wears out. It is timeless.”

Digital is rapidly becoming the dominant model for media production, distribution and consumption. We can have some snaphot of the forces at work: drivers and inhibitors.
Digital media drivers include Lack of standards, Legislation, Consumer attitudes/behaviors, Downloads.
and inhibitors include Potential for increased efficiencies and new strategies, Consumer attitudes/behaviors, Service offerings (licenses, pricing), Legislation and lawsuits, Storage and connectivity.
We have standards...too many standards.True standards for copy protection have yet to emerge. By true standards, we mean standards for interoperability and use of DRM technologies as tested and certified by industry organizations. There are, however, standards defined by the installed base of users.
