每年秋季开学前一个周六晚上，本村旧书店Powell’s总有book sale（取“辞旧迎新”之意吧），所有书一律五折， 9:00p.m.开始可以check out。我通常7:00p.m.去挑书，两小时大约能选完。H同学一大早就去，选了几大箱子。社会学系同学甚多，买书风气是可以传染的。发觉今年人气不如往年，不知是爱书的老研究生们都毕业了、新一代不那么热爱纸书，还是经济萧条影响到购书能力。L同学亦抱怨好书不如往年多。

        从前李猛在这里的“社会思想委员会”时，常对版本津津乐道，周围总围着些学弟学妹。他回国时200多箱书，找了个集装箱运回去。我仍在收集书乐此不疲，买书时总会忘记搬家的痛苦。不过鉴于多数专业外之书无暇阅读，也就收敛些。
