The Fighting ship tugged_to_her_last_Berth_to_be_broken 特纳的名作《无畏号战舰》。描绘的是暮色之中的特拉法尔加海战英雄“无畏号”。当时战舰已经退役，正在被机动拖船拖往码头拆毁。画中洋溢着悲壮的情绪，让人情不自禁地怀想帆船时代的优雅、美好和神秘。

透纳在晚年虽然成为有名的画家，过着非常富裕的生活，但很难令人想象，却是一个具有象侦探小说中那种双重性格的人，有时象个可尊敬的绅士住在山下幽静的邸宅里，有时却象“一个老船工”住在偏僻地方的贫民窟里，穿着破烂的衣服，一面晒太阳，一面给贫民窟的孩子们信口开河地讲“乘船的冒险故事”。而且他死后，尸体也发现在贫民窟一间肮脏的屋子里。

Light is the dominant visible element in land and seascape, and it becomes a major of Turner's concern, so that he seems to offer a link between Claude in 17th Century and the French impressionist later in 19th Century. But he also sought pictorial form and structure thru which to express the energy、the drama、or the sweetness of nature, her serenity、or her turbulence, and this he had to invent and to assess in terms of its correspondence with his emotional, as well as visual experience.
