英国驻华大使馆将再度奖励6名中国科学记者。这个消息是英国使馆科学技术参赞康大卫(David
Concar)本月5日在“亚太媒体与科技和社会发展研讨会”上透露的。著名学术出版集团爱思唯尔将为获奖者提供资助。
奖励计划要求申请者于2007年1月14日之前，提交2006年年内发表或播放的以科学技术为主题的新闻作品。
今年3月下旬，我和5位同行获得“英中科技合作媒体优秀作品”奖励，前往苏格兰和英格兰访问了一周。该奖的评选由中国科技新闻学会和英国科学作家协会共同完成。
这一奖项的设立离不开康大卫的极力推动。这位资深科学记者曾经为《自然》和《新科学家》等媒体工作。
4月20号在中国大饭店举行的颁奖晚宴上，我见到了评委之一、在北京化工大学任教的戴伟(David
Evans)教授。这位中国通今年3月获得了中国政府颁发的国际科学与技术合作奖。令我略感惊讶的是，他竟然记得我提交作品的具体内容。
在颁奖晚宴上，英国驻华大使欧威廉(William
Ehrman)说了一段精彩的话:
"Most of you here tonight are science journalists
and your work has never been more important. Science and technology
impact hugely on our lives, our national economies and on our
ability to tackle global problems such as climate change and
infectious disease. It is crucial that the wider public understands
not only what science and technology can deliver but also where
their limits lie. In these as in other important fields we need an
informed media that is able and willing to tell the story as it is:
to report facts not fallacies, and to debate policies not
prejudices.
