1985年11月28日，中央芭蕾舞团精心打造的《堂·吉诃德》在北京天桥剧场成功首演。当年，时任法国巴黎歌剧院芭蕾舞团团长兼艺术指导、著名芭蕾艺术家鲁道夫·纽里耶夫应戴爱莲先生之邀来到中芭，并且出于对中国的特殊情感，令人钦佩地无偿为中央芭蕾舞团排演其版本的《堂·吉诃德》。

On November 28, 1985, the National Ballet of China premiered Don Quixote in Tianqiao Theater. Motivated by his special feelings for China, he accepted the invitation of Madam Dai Ailian, and visited the Company as the Artistic Director of Paris Opera Ballet in Beijing in 1985. Admirably he staged for the Company his adapted version of Don Quixote with no charge at all.
