短文缩写是主观测试题型，解题时难度较大。所填内容有些属表层理解，经过阅读后很容易得到答案。但也有一些需经过转换、推理、总结概括才能填出正确答案。下面结合以下两篇短文具体说明解题的方法。

1．认真阅读短文，充分理解短文大意，获取某些特定的信息。

2．仔细阅读所要填充的短文。所填内容有些可通过同义句改写、逻辑推理得到答案。

短文（1）：第1、3、4空为推理判断题。第1空：根据明信片上所提供的时间可以判断该空应填summer（July，1997）；第3空：由interesting可以得出答案happy（glad，pleased）；第4空：写明信片的时间是Saturday，知昨天是Friday。其余空格稍作分析便可得答案。

短文（2）：第1、9空属同义句改写：reach→arrive at，come back→return；第3空属判断题：前面提到The traveler was wet and cold．所以他想坐在火炉旁烤干衣服（clothes）。其余空可直接找到答案。
