I used to stay in Beijing the night before new year to attend the CCTV new year broadcast, that was my first Chinese new year in China.  After the event after 1am, i would go back to my hotel, slept a few hours and then first thing, I would go to the airport to go home to spend new year day with my Daddy in NYC.  That was the routine for many years.  Until a few years ago when my father got very sick. I and all my sisters would go back to have a family reunion and spend all the time with my daddy.  Those days, China was so different. the airport in the morning of new year was very very quiet.  no one was travelling.  the airport looked like it was closed.  the lines were short.  Boy, what a difference today.  These days, you can't even go through the customs area without waiting in long long line.  Hard to travel during the holidays becuase the chinese travel so much OUT of china! 
Although I have worked in china for over 20 years, I have never spent New Year in China. My father who was ill for 8 years passed away last year in NYC so I felt I needed not go back to NYC this year.  So I decided to stay in my Shanghai home.  Especially since I just started the store House of Yue-Sai.  I wanted to stay around to watch the business.  It is always good to spend some time with poeple that work for me.
Anyway, it is not a dissappointment for me.  It is really quite wonderful. I spent one whole day in bed in my pajamas and watching movies and reading documents and books that have piled up.  I have such a relaxing day.  and at night, i have a big party for my good friends at my own home.  Here are some pictures of my friends.  Wishing you all a wonderful wonderful year of the rat!
