Endymion was a young shepherd who kept his sheep on Mount Latmus. The pasture there was green and fresh, and the air was pure and cool. When the moon rose, it was very beautiful. Endymion liked it so much that he spent day and night on it, sleeping and dreaming.
　　Selene was the moon-goddess, and it was because of her that Mount Latmus was so beautiful. She went around it nearly every day.
　　One day, as she was walking around, she saw the sleeping Endymion. She was so amazed at the beauty of the young man that she didn't want to leave, and she went out to see him every night. How she hoped that the young man would be young and sleeping forever, because she liked him best when he slept in her light.
　　She asked Jupiter for help so that the young man would stay young and sleeping forever. Jupiter promised to help, and put him in a cave on Monut Latmus. So Endymion has been sleeping ever since.
