(129)Slowly she went down one path, lingering, like one who has gone back into the past. (130)Suddenly she was touching some heavy crimson roses that were soft as velvet, touching them thoughtfully, without knowing, as a mother sometimes fondles the hand of her child. (131)She leaned slightly forward to catch the scent. (132)Then she wandered on in abstraction. (133)Sometimes a flame-coloured, scentless rose would hold her arrested. (134)She stood gazing at it as if she could not understand it. (135)Again the same softness of intimacy came over her, as she stood before a tumbling heap of pink petals. (136)Then she wondered over the white rose, that was greenish, like ice, in the centre. (137)So, slowly, like a white, pathetic butterfly, she drifted down the path, coming at last to a tiny terrace all full of roses. (138)They seemed to fill the place, a sunny, gay throng. (139)She was shy of them, they were so many and so bright. (140) They seemed to be conversing and laughing. (141)She felt herself in a strange crowd. (142)It exhilarated her, carried her out of herself.(143)She flushed with excitement. The air was pure scent.

(144)Hastily, she went to a little seat among the white roses, and sat down. (145)Her scarlet sunshade made a hard blot of colour. (146) She sat quite still, feeling her own existence lapse. (147) She was no more than a rose, a rose that could not quite come into blossom, but remained tense. (148) A little fly dropped on her knee, on her white dress. (149) She watched it, as if it had fallen on a rose. (150) She was not herself.

(129) Slowly she went down one path, lingering, like one who has gone back into the past.

(130)此句翻译时刈分为五个小句(a)Suddenly she was touching some heavy crimson roses (b)that were soft as velvet, (c)touching them thoughtfully, (d)without knowing, (e)as a mother sometimes fondles the hand of her child.

(132) 此句翻译时可以先刈分为两个小句(a)Then she wandered on (b)in abstraction。其中(a)小句中的then只表示动作的接续,在上下文中,可以遗而不译;wander:roam;(b)小句中的abstraction:absence of mind or preoccupation,此处译为:舒展心扉。

To capture and hold briefly (the attention, for example); engage.

(134) as if she could not understand it翻译时采用反正法,译为:仿佛对它充满着疑惑。

(136)此句翻译时刈分为四个小句(a)Then she wondered (b)over the white rose, (c)that was greenish, (d)like ice, in the centre 其中wonder at (over)意为:看见……而吃惊;greenish:slightly green in color.

(138)They seemed to fill the place, a sunny, gay throng中they指前一句中的roses,翻译时采用代词还原增益法,译为:玫瑰。

(139) She was shy of them, they were so many and so bright.中them和they指玫瑰。

(141)It exhilarated her, carried her out of herself.中carried her out of herself意为:took her out of herself。

(142) The air was pure scent

(145) Her scarlet sunshade made a hard blot of colour中made a…blot of…

(146) She sat quite still, feeling her own existence lapse.

(147)She was no more than a rose, a rose that could not quite come into blossom, but remained tense. no more than意为:only;将could not quite come into blossom与but remained tense依并为一句。
