中国人讲究吃。Chinese place high importance on eating. 吃重要，谈吃的学问也重要。Food is important, and so of course the art of talking about food is also important. 既然这样，如何跟外国朋友谈吃呢？So, how can you successfully talk about food with your foreign friends?

谈吃时，总是有一些说法特别“中国，”比如“吃某一个菜（或点心），吃得很过瘾。” There seem to be some expressions that are particularly “Chinese;” for example, “When I ate a certain dish (or snack), 吃得很过瘾。

英语能表达这个意思吗？Can you express this meaning in English?

能。Yes!

举一个例子：西瓜　Here’s one example:

夏天大七月的时候，吃大红的西瓜特别好吃。 吃完了，满脸西瓜汁，但全身感觉很舒服。 “啊。这个西瓜吃得真过瘾！”During the hot summer month of July, bright-red watermelon is extremely delicious. When you are finished eating, your face is often covered with watermelon juice but you feel good all over!

You can say in perfect English: “Wow, that [watermelon] really hit the spot!

再举一个例子：剃刀蛤蜊  Here’s another example:

如果很少到海边玩，那么很少有机会吃新鲜的海鲜。海边的海鲜一般比较便宜，也比较新鲜。If you don’t go to the seashore much, you may not have a chance to get fresh seafood very often. The seafood on the coast is usually relatively cheap and relatively fresh.

“上一周我到大连玩了几天。我们在石槽子吃海鲜, 足足吃了三个小时了。我一个人大概吃了一斤剃刀蛤蜊， 吃得太过瘾了!”

In English, you can say, “Last week I went to Dalian for a few days’ vacation. We had a seafood dinner near Shicao beach that lasted three hours. I probably ate a pound of razor clams, and, boy, were they good!"
