Good afternoon, Ladies and gentle men! I'm Seven, come from the school of Chemistry Engineering, and my major is environmental engineering. It’s my great honour to be here to deliver a speech on the topic of love and responsibility, and the title of my speech, also, is love and responsibility.

As we all know that love is a kind of human instinct. The birth of a baby, surely we can say, is the seed of love sown by his parents. They rear him with love, from taking root, sprouting until growing up. However, have you realized that, during this long journey of life, in fact, there is also a kind of responsibility that they bear at the same time?

Here I want to ask: what do you think is the reason that makes them take the responsibility of rearing us? Of course, it’s for the sake of love! And what do you think is the reason that drives them persist on giving this kind of love to us for so many years? Definitely, it’s responsibility!

From this, we can know that, love is the primitive drive while responsibility helps it go further and finally, makes it great.

I’m here not going to argue that which is more valuable between love and responsibility, actually, it’s not a matter of which one is more important I think. Love is the original motivation, responsibility comes from love and goes along with it. Neither of them can exist long without the other one.

Lacking of responsibility, love will not be true love. A man who never takes the responsibility of supporting his parents says that “I love them”, will you believe it? I think nobody will, for he doesn’t show his love by action. And also, lacking of love, responsibility cannot last long. You can fight for your country for free anytime anywhere even if you’ll sacrifice your lives, but can you fight for other countries for a long time without any profit gained? Nobody will, either. Because the love to your country has deeply rooted in your mind.

At last, I’d like to end up my speech with a metaphor, maybe it’ll convey my opinion on this matter to some extent: If love can be described as petrol, so can the responsibility be imagined as an engine. Only fill the engine with petrol can the vehicle of love and responsibility go far.
